beyondblue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation working to increase the awareness and understanding of depression and anxiety in Australia and reduce the stigma associated with this. beyondblue provides a variety of free resources on depression and anxiety for individuals, organisations and health professionals.

Client Requirement

beyondblue was conducting a ‘world first’: a national, mental-health survey of more than 50,000 Australian doctors and medical students including those in remote and regional Australia. beyondblue engaged DCA to assist with the production of this survey.

DCA has an ongoing partnership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), beginning with a data migration project across 14 health professions in 2009-2010. DCA is also the preferred database bureau and mail house for AHPRA, providing support for the monthly production of registration renewals and certificates. AHPRA recommended DCA to beyondblue due to DCA’s extensive experience in the health industry, as well as in the direct marketing and mailing fields.

DCA’s Solution

In collaboration with beyondblue and other key stakeholders, DCA created the segmentation, mailing strategy and schedules for both the pilot and main survey questionnaires.

The questionnaires were sent to approximately 50,000 medical practitioners and medical students. DCA achieved cost effective and timely outcomes across all production components, as well as with the associated postage charges.

<p?Tasks included processing, cleansing, segmenting and formatting data from the medical database while maintaining the recipient’s anonymity.

DCA also managed the production of all associated components and requirements for both the pilot and main survey mailings, including:

  • Doctors and student survey questionnaires.
  • Envelopes.
  • Awareness letter mailing.
  • Questionnaire letter mailing.
  • Reminder letter mailing.

Customer Benefits

All milestones were reached on schedule for both data processing and mailing production. This allowed beyondblue to reach key stakeholders through media releases and health-industry channels in order to raise awareness of the survey questionnaire.

There was a strong response to this landmark project. This has assisted with key findings and given beyondblue an unprecedented insight that will help to address depression and anxiety among doctors and medical students in Australia.
